GRATUITY/TIPPING GUIDE

Tipping in the hunting industry is customary and important. It supports the hardworking staff behind the scenes who contribute to the success of your safari. Your contribution can be determined by factors like:

  • Satisfaction of your Safari
  • Success of your Safari
  • Total cost of your Safari
  • Length of your Safari
  • Type of Safari (Plains game, Dangerous game, or combination)
  • Number of Hunters or observers
  • Recognition of standout individuals

Here’s a guideline for your gratuity:

  • PH (Professional Hunter): $50 – $200 per day
  • Tracker: $100 – $200 for the Safari
  • Skinner: $100 – $200 for the Safari
  • Driver: $100 – $200 for the Safari
  • Cleaning Staff: $20 – $40 for the Safari
  • Chef: $50 – $200 for the Safari

For your convenience, PHASA can handle your importation permits before your arrival for a minor fee. We strongly recommend this.

Download the SAP 520, the temporary Firearms import application, before your arrival in RSA. This is essential to streamline your entry process. The form must be completed in black ink and accompanied by the following:

  • Notarized Passport copy
  • Airline ticket
  • Notarized proof of firearm ownership (e.g., Legal license, permit certificate)
  • Copy of the invitation letter from your hunting outfitter

All these documents should be emailed to PHASA at phasa@phasa.co.za, scanned, readable, and no larger than 4Mb, 25 days before your arrival.

Bow Hunting is primarily conducted from permanent blinds set up at water sources, including tree, pit, or ground blinds. These blinds are monitored to ensure your success, and shots are typically taken at a range of 20 – 30 yards.

REQUIREMENTS

For bow hunting, a quiet, fast Bow / Crossbow with sharp fixed blades or broadheads will suffice for most animals. Fortunately, there are no permits or charges required to import a bow.
